The Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) has announced a strategic partnership with Kudos, a leading platform for increasing research visibility and engagement, to amplify the global impact of research addressing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This collaboration will see ACS Publications joining the SDG Knowledge Cooperative, an initiative by Kudos designed to connect research with broader audiences to drive progress toward achieving the SDGs.
Advancing Sustainability Through Chemistry
Chemistry plays a pivotal role in solving some of the world’s most pressing challenges, from ensuring access to clean water to innovating green energy solutions. Recognizing this, ACS has identified seven SDGs that are “foundational to the work of the chemistry community.” The partnership with Kudos will focus on identifying high-impact articles from ACS journals, summarizing them for broader, non-specialist audiences, and promoting them to key stakeholders such as policymakers, educators, industry leaders, and the media.
“Chemistry is fundamental to achieving many of the SDGs,” said Dr. James Milne, President of ACS Publications. “This collaboration with Kudos will help amplify the reach and impact of key research that supports the SDGs, making innovations more accessible and actionable for scientists and the many stakeholders who can accelerate society’s progress towards achieving the SDGs.”
Translating Research into Action
The SDG Knowledge Cooperative aims to bridge the gap between groundbreaking research and its practical application. By summarizing and promoting key research findings, the initiative ensures that critical innovations are accessible to those who can implement them where they are needed most.
“The research that will solve many of the world’s biggest problems is already underway,” said Charlie Rapple, co-founder of Kudos and lead for its SDG program. “Our challenge is to ensure that those solutions are known and applied in the right places. I’m excited to be joining forces with ACS Publications in our quest to maximize the reach and impact of research.”
Driving Awareness and Action
In addition to joining the SDG Knowledge Cooperative, ACS is sponsoring Kudos’ ongoing research into how researchers, universities, and funders are aligning their work with the SDGs. This study will provide actionable recommendations for stakeholders seeking to engage with SDG-related opportunities. The findings are expected to be published next month.
